What is Intimacy?

I do not exactly recall where I read this, but I remember reading or hearing somewhere something like this - Real Intimacy is not about physical closeness or sex, but it is more about honestly sharing our deepest truths!
I find this a very true depiction of what most people are seeking in a relationship.
We suffer through heartaches and heartbreaks in relationships even though we are or we were physically close and intimate. In most of these cases, what we were lacking is the 'real intimacy' that I am referring to here, which is being intimate with each other in terms of sharing our deeper feelings and thoughts and being honest about it, open and straight-forward about vulnerabilities, needs and wants, exposing those deeper truths.
This is a very big topic and thousands of books have been written on this topic of relationships and openness and honesty and such, but the point here on this post is that there is a more important and deeper facet to the word used as Intimacy in relationships.
