Another Fun Fact about India - 22 Official languages ( not dialects!)
I meet people from other countries who are curious about my origins and the country of birth.
A typical question I face is " Where are you from?"
... OK ... well that is a long topic and I will probably write a separate article on that.
Another question comes up in terms of what language I speak and a clarification or inquisitiveness about what is the "Indian language" ?
Well , I have to explain the concept that India has 22 officially recognized languages ( as listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution) and these are languages with completely different scripts. alphabets, even the numerals. I would not be able to understand a word or a sentence of someone speaking another regional language. More different than French and German are different.
Facts:
These languages are:
- Assamese
- Bengali
- Bodo
- Dogri
