A productivity hack - 5 steps to the essential Daily Log document

Daily Log document

Here is a productivity hack that I use in my daily life and which has been extremely useful to keep track of many things including finances, appointments, achievements, planning amongst many other things.

This is a simple document that i call my Daily Log Document.

The characteristics of it is as follows:

[1] Format - plain notepad-type format

Use a DIGITAL plain notepad-type format and a simple application that can be opened via your phone, laptop or desktop or tablet etc.

The idea is to use it across multiple platforms and not increase the size or volume of the storage required and complexity.  No fancy stuff. Minimal storage overhead.

Use a cloud based Notepad /Wordpad /Google doc / Apple notes or such.

I use Google Docs and have a different file for every year. Just copy and clone for every new year.

"Daily Notes 2024" for example is the document name with 12 months in own sections or chapters.

[2] Tasks Lists for the year, month, week

The format is again simple text but containing overall plan or tasks hierarchy

- Annual section at top

- Monthly sections ( 12 months in own sections as mentioned above)

- Daily bullet points . One for each day and sub-bullets for each item.

Example

        Annual tasks:

  • unchecked

Personal IRS Income tax file  - April

  • unchecked

    Car Registration  -

  • Monthly tasks:

    • check/pay Mortgage / Rent

    • check/pay Home Electricity

    • check/pay Mobile

    • check/pay Internet

    • check/pay Car Ins

    • check/pay Cr cards

[3] Mark items as TO-DO

I Just write the word TO-DO  next to an item. Then i could just search the doc for this phrase and remove the tag once the task is completed.

    • check/pay Cr cards TO-DO check $12 credit from Walmart

    • TO-DO Follow up on my event with the organizer

[4] Review and update the Log every day.

Update the log everyday . Just takes 5 minutes. I recommend a couple of times a day.

[5] Extra - but most powerful -

Tackle the difficult and tough ones first as higher priority although you don’t like it and your body resists and rejects… you need the discipline… you will feel tremendous happiness after completion and you will be surprised and rewarded

Namaste !!!
