S R G M P D N S refers to Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa, which in tun is the same as Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do or the 1 ,2 ,3 , 4, 5, 6 , 7, 8 relative notes on a scale.
Eastern Hindustani Music Thaats
- Bilawal ( S R G M P D N S): all natural notes
- Khamaj (S R G M P D n S): flat Ni (flat Ni = n)
- Kafi (S R g M P D n S): flat Ga and Ni.
- Asavari (S R g M P d n): flat Ga, Dha, and Ni.
- Bhairavi (S r g M P d n): all flat notes. Re, Ga, Dha, Ni *(note Sa, Pa has no variants)
- Bhairav (S r G M P d N): flat Re and Dha.
- Kalyan (S R G m P D N): sharp Ma. *( Sharp Ma = m )
- Marwa (S r G m P D N): flat Re and sharp Ma.
- Poorvi (S r G m P d N): flat Re, Dha, and sharp Ma.
- Todi (S r g m P d N): flat Re, Ga, Dha, and sharp Ma
Western Music Scales Modes
- Bilawal ( S R G M P D N S): ~~ Ionian Mode
- Khamaj (S R G M P D n S): ~~ Mixolydian Mode
- Kafi (S R g M P D n S): ~~ Dorian Mode
- Asavari (S R g M P d n): ~~ Aeolian Mode or Natural Minor Scale
- Bhairavi (S r g M P d n): ~~ Phrygian Mode
- Bhairav (S r G M P d N): ~~ Double Harmonic Major Scale or Byzantine Scale
- Kalyan (S R G m P D N): ~~ Lydian Mode
- Marwa (S r G m P D N): ~~ Unique structure often used in modern harmony, partially similar to Lydian (b2)
- Poorvi (S r G m P d N): ~~ Similar to the Gypsy Minor Scale or Hungarian Gypsy scale
- Todi (S r g m P d N): Unique scale; has similarities to the Locrian Mode ((b4) or Lydian (b2) (b6)
