The 5 types of wealth !
I recently browsed a book titled "The 5 Types of Wealth" by author Sahil Bloom. I was quite impressed by the author's deep analysis. My blog post here is not a book review, and it is not complete either, as I did not read the entire book. However, I did jot down a few notes that I wanted to share.

Some points that I jotted down, mainly from the first part of the book, as some reminders;

  • When a group of seniors, 80-year-old folks and above, were asked about the most significant things they could highlight from their entire life, not even one person mentioned money!

  • Money increases happiness at lower levels to a certain point… but beyond that it has no effect…

  • Another reminder is to think about this question: What advice would you give to your younger self?

Some quotes mentioned from the first part of the book:
  • Mark Twain: "It ain't what you don’t know that gets you into trouble, it is what you know for sure that just ain't so…"

  • Jean de la Fontaine:   " How many people let the real house fall down, to build a castle in the air!"

  • Peter Drucker:  "What gets measured gets managed."

Wealth - 5 types -

 1. Time:

How many moments do you have remaining with your loved ones?

Would you trade your life with Warren Buffett's? (Note that the money  and age would come together !!)

- Chart your entire life in weeks. Create a 52  x 80  matrix. 52 weeks per year and assume 80 years of living ( although nothing is guaranteed). Strike out the past weeks. See how visible the remaining weeks are in your life?

- Seneca: We make our lives short ( by wasting a lot of time). Not all time is equal… We need to figure out priorities.

2. Social: (People)

Who will be sitting in the front row at your funeral?

" The graveyard is full of important and irreplaceable people" !!!

  • What is money or time if you cannot enjoy it with the people you love?

  • The key to healthy aging is your relationships ( family, friends, etc)

  • The loneliness humans feel in today’s world is like a pandemic

  • The greatest predictor of health at 80 was the relationship satisfaction of the person in his/her 50s!

  • " Days are long, but years are short " . We realize that kids grow up so quickly!

3. Mental: (creative /activities)

What would your 10-year-old self say to you today?

- Curiosity is the super drug. Fortune favors the curious.

- " Some people die at 25, and they aren’t buried until 75! "

- Find your IKIGAI; purpose ;

- Feynman technique: to learn anything ->  teach it to a beginner as you learn along,

- Spaced repetition - a learning strategy

4. Physical: (Health)

Will you be dancing at your 80th birthday party?

5. Financial:(Money)

What is your definition of enough?
